Again, unknown gunmen attack Labour Party meeting in Enugu, burn vehicles

Gunmen have, for the fourth time, at the weekend, attacked Labour Party ward meeting ahead of the 2023 general elections at Umuida, Enugu-Ezike, in Igbo-Eze North Council of Enugu State.

It was gathered that the gunmen shot sporadically in the air, thereby, causing members of the party to scamper for safety. They were said to have set some motorcycles and tricycles (keke) ablaze before leaving the area.

Chieftains of the party in the state, yesterday, expressed optimism that attacks on its members would not deter the party in its quest to win the state next year.

They noted that “sustained attacks” on members showed that the party is doing well and remains one to beat in the general elections in the state.

A chieftain of the party, Chief Ugonna Onochie, insisted that the party had already gained ground, stressing that the attacks are coming rather too late.

He said: “We cannot be scared. We are not worried, because we are determined to change the status quo; and whether they like it or not, we are winning.”

Another member of the party, James Nnamchi, insisted that the attacks are meant to take the party to the desired destination.
