APC clears Oyo, Ogun senatorial seats, gets 17 Reps seats

Sweeps N’Assembly seats in Ogun

All Progressives Congress (APC), the major opposition party in Oyo State, has cleared the three senatorial and eight House of Representatives seats in the state.

Declaring the results of the National Assembly elections, yesterday, at the Mutiu Agboke Collation Centre, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, Ibadan, the Chief Collation Officer, Prof. Olusola Kehinde, stated that the total registered voters were 3,237,310, accredited voters 854,449 and total votes cast 851,956.

Yinus Akintunde of APC was declared senator-elect for Oyo Central, to succeed Teslim Folarin, who is the party’s gubernatorial flagbearer for the March 11 contest.

Also Sharafadeen Alli was declared senator-elect for Oyo South. He defeated Joseph Tegbe of PDP, while Fatai Buhari was declared senator-elect for Oyo North.

APC also cleared eight House of Representatives seats out of the 14 in the state.

APC also won all the three senatorial districts and nine House of Representatives seats in Ogun State.

The Guardian learnt that Senator Olamilekan Solomon won the Ogun West Senatorial seat, former Governor Gbenga Daniel won Ogun East, while Shuaib Salis won in Ogun Central.

Adeola, who currently represents Lagos West, won with 112,887 votes to defeat his closest rival of the PDP, Ganiyu Obanibasiri, who scored 60,189 votes.

Daniel, a former governor of the state, had a landslide victory with 115,147 votes to defeat the PDP and Labour Party (LP) candidates who polled 58,708 and 13,061 respectively.

Salis, former Chief of Staff to the governor, will be replacing Ibikunle Amosun at the red chamber.

For the House of Representatives seats, three-time governorship candidate in the state, Gboyega Isiaka, won the Egbado North and Imeko-Afon Federal constituency election.

Isiaka contested on the platform of the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) in 2011, PDP in 2015 and African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2019.

Adegbesan Joseph of the APC won the ticket to represent Ijebu-North/East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, he defeated the current Deputy Minority Whip, Segun Adekoya of the PDP. The Returning Officer, Adeyemi Bamgbose, said Adekoya polled 25,450 while the APC candidate garnered 35,708.

The House of Representatives member representing Remo-North Federal Constituency on the platform of the APC, Mrs. Adewunmi Onanuga, won the election. She polled 32,686, defeating Bola Oluwole of PDP, who scored 24,658 votes, and Damilare Michael George of LP who received 8,111 votes.

In the Egbado-South/Ipokia federal constituency, the APC candidate, Abiodun Akinlade, was declared the winner of the election. The Returning Officer, Prof. Ola Jacob, said Akinlade polled 26,171 to defeat the PDP candidate who polled 22 573.

In Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Afolabi Afuape of the APC, was victorious, polling 19,891 to beat Toyin Amuzu of PDP who scored 13,663.
