As part of efforts to cushion the ripple effects of COVID-19 pandemics on internally displaced persons in the Federal Capital Territory, Mallpai Foundation has empowered about 6000 persons in New Kuvhingoro Community, Abuja.
The foundation funded and supported by the Wife of Kebbi State Governor Aisha Bagudu trained the members of the community on phone repairs, catering and pastries, soap and baby food production among others.
Items handed over to them include cartons of indomie, Bags of rice, Mosquito nets, Duvet, slippers, blankets, school uniforms and bags, sandals, biscuits, maize meals, buckets, bowls, cooking pots flasks, cloths, Exercise books, blankets, sanitary pads underwears among others.
Members of the camp were also provided with free medical check-up, immunization, and free HIV tests
Handing over the support items to elated IDPs, Aisha Bagudu said the challenges befalling the country is having a great effect on the masses, especially women and less privileged children.
She said the foundation is not only giving the usual food items but to also provide them with skills acquisitions after which they would be empowered.
Aisha Atiku-Bagudu pointed out that the need to look beyond government in addressing the current security challenge but also at individual level NGOs can also support and individuals can do a lot of reporting.
The Director of Media and communication Mallpai Foundation McEva Temofe noted their research showed that the beneficiaries are one of the most affected people during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Vice-chairman of the IDP camp Alh Sule Adamu lamented that they have been given till January to evict the camp but they don’t know where to relocate to.
He, however, commended the first lady for the good gesture, saying it would go a long way to reduce their suffering.
