Chelsea took no prisoners as they defeated Tottenham 2-0 in the Premier League on Sunday, January 23, 2022, to secure all three points, just as Liverpool did against Crystal Palace on Saturday, January 22, 2022, to close the gap in the Premier League table.

Chelsea's Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva put two goals past Tottenham to earn Chelsea their first win in the Premier League since the start of 2022. Chelsea, looking to make a statement after poor performances in their previous two Premier League games against Manchester City and Brighton, started the game at a high tempo and created multiple chances that they failed to convert until the second half. The win for Thomas Tuchel’s men reduced the gap in the premier league table to just 10 points behind Manchester City, who currently have a game in hand.

Arsenal’s poor run of form in five games since the start of January 2022 continued after they failed to convert against a resilient Burnley, who held Mikel Arteta’s men to a goalless draw in the Premier League fixture that was played on Sunday, January 23, 2022. This has become a worrisome situation for Arsenal as top-4 qualification seems to be far from possible.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool secured all three points against Crystal Palace on Saturday, January 21, 2022, in a 3-1 victory over Patrick Viera’s men. Although there had been a controversial decision in the form of a penalty, Liverpool showed no signs of slowing down in order to close the gap on the table. With a game in hand, Liverpool is now 9 points behind table-toppers Manchester City, while Chelsea is third, 10 points behind Manchester City in the Premier League table.

This might look like a huge deficit, but with 3 points per game, a whole lot can happen in the premier league season that involves teams playing 38 games each.
