University of Lagos (UNILAG) has made recommendations on how to unlock and enhance innate creativity in university administration.

Former Registrar and Director (Sir Arthur Mbanefo Research Centre, UNILAG), Dr. Taiwo Folashade Ipaye, yesterday, said one of the major challenges of creativity in the current university administration is lack of professionalism.

She stated this at the launch of the maiden edition of ‘SUSSURRI’- Our Voice Magazine, at College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL), Idi-Araba.

Ipaye said: “There is no public accountability and no clear understanding of rules and regulations including code of conduct, which includes ethics guiding. Again, there is a disturbing tolerance and fostering of corrupt practices in the institution.”

Ipaye advised Nigerians to invest in themselves by buying and reading books and conducting research on subjects of interest.

She said: “We need to constantly increase our command of spoken English; learn how to make use of appropriate computer software relevant to our field; go beyond what is expected, to enhance our creativity, evaluate and re-design our mode of product or service delivery; undertake teamwork and critical thinking that involves tasking our brain; and deploy networking skills like knowing what your colleagues are doing by checking their work places and knowing what they do differently.”

She stressed the role of technology to improve creativity in the administration and reiterated the use of various social media platforms for interacting with students.

“In essence, use technology to drive the administration,” Ipaye said.
