Immediate past Chairman, Delta State Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Owa, Dr. E.O. Efeizomor 11, has appealed to politicians in the country to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure peaceful polls in the country.

The monarch also appealed to politicians to adhere strictly to INEC’s electoral guidelines on the use of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and avoid vote selling and buying, among others.

According to a statement, yesterday, Efeizomor 11 made the appeal at the weekend, in an interview with journalists during the just-concluded South South Monarchs Forum Extraordinary General Assembly in Yenogoa, Bayelsa State.

The monarch said: “Those politicians planning to cause trouble during the election should not forget that those, who live in a glass house, should not throw stones, and if you’re beating drums of war, don’t forget events that led to the Nigerian Civil War, which are still very fresh in our minds, you can start a war but you may not have control over the outcome and consequences.”

The monarch was part of the 30-member delegation from Edo/Delta State that attended the two-day summit, with the theme: “Enhancing Grassroots Security and Peace in the South South Region during and after the 2023 general elections.”

He urged Nigerians to come out to cast their votes for their preferred candidate to bring about needed development and rescue the country from the current social-economic problems

He lamented the rising cases of electoral violence in the country, particularly attacks on INEC facilities in some parts of the country, saying violence and intimidation are threats to free and fair elections, if not checked.

He advised INEC to embark on vigorous voter education to solve voter apathy and promised that traditional rulers in the region would ensure hitch-free elections. He called on those yet to collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) to do so as a duty to the nation.
